best fogless shower mirrors featured image

When I first heard of fogless shaving mirrors for in-shower use, I thought they had to be a joke.

advertisement

I mean who needs a mirror inside of their shower, when they could just use the regular bathroom mirror for trimming the beard, shaving, and whatnot?

Well, it turns out that there are actually some pretty cool things that you can do with a shower mirror, and finding the best one for you might make your life a whole lot easier.

Benefits of fog-free in shower mirrors:

  • You could use it as a shaving mirror to completely cut off your beard, but as beardsmen, we would use it only to clean up our necklines and upper cheeks (or to maintain something like a goatee).
  • You could also use an anti-fog shower mirror to trim your beard while taking a shower, as many new models of beard trimmers and stubble trimmers are in fact waterproof and usable under running water.
  • Not to mention the other possibilities like shaving your back hairs (think of those big back shavers like the BakBlade, etc) or just using it as a visual aid when trimming your pubes.

Like said, finding the best fogless shower mirror might not be a bad thing to do at all, and you’re in heaps of luck, as we have already done the hard work for you.

Allow us to present you the 7 best shaving mirrors for in-shower use. ↓

Different Types of Shower Mirrors Explained

different types of shaving mirrors

There are dozens upon dozens of fogless shaving mirrors to choose from, but all of them can be categorized into three types.

These include:

advertisement
  • Anti-Fog Coated Shower Mirrors
  • Pipe-Attached Shower Mirrors
  • Warm-Water Reservoir Shower Mirrors

Below, I’ll quickly explain the pros and cons of each shower mirror type and how they work.

Coated Anti-Fog Shaving Mirrors

By far the most popular choice of getting rid of the fog is through using a chemical-based anti-fog coating.

These do eventually deteriorate, but luckily you can buy anti-coat products yourself to use on the surface and make it like brand new again.

The chemically coated fogless shower mirrors are usually attached by a hook or removable suction cup since it’s recommended that you take them out of the shower after use to extend the lifespan of the coating.

Direct Pipe Attachment Shaving Mirrors

Rare type of shower mirror is the pipe-attached kind, which is installed in-between the actual warm-water pipe that feeds the showerhead.

Since the warm water runs through the back of the mirror, it will never get foggy, and since it’s securely attached into the piping, it’s also unlikely to drop and break.

There’s however a big downfall, which is the fact that it requires an experienced plumber to actually attach the mirror into your shower stall.

Reservoir-Based Shaving Mirrors

In-shower shaving mirrors with a reservoir at the back are also quite popular and simple to install/use.

How they work is very simple, you just put some warm water into the reservoir at the back of the mirror before you start showering, which will keep the surface completely fog-free.

The obvious benefit of this method is that there are no required installation procedures, no need to use anti-fog chemicals, and the reservoir-technology will never deteriorate.

What to Look for in a Shaving Mirror

minimalistic fogless shaving mirror

Size

There are many different sizes of shaving mirrors available, from travel-friendly and portable 6×4″ mirrors all the way to huge folding multi-panel shower mirrors that can be up to 31″ wide.

advertisement

The size that is best for you obviously depends on your needs and preference.

Do you travel a lot and appreciate minimalism? Then you should probably get a smaller mirror.

But if you use the shaving mirror mostly on your own house and would like something with bigger surface area and more angles to work with, then a larger folding in-shower mirror might be the best choice for you.

Price

Most of the shaving mirrors are in the price range of 20-30 dollars. Then there are the big “deluxe” folding mirrors that can be up to $60+ and the small and simple hook mirrors that can be less than ten bucks.

The reflective mirrors themselves are not expensive, but the type of heating system, the size, and a few other factors can greatly influence the price.

The shower mirrors we chose for this review specifically are all from different price categories, but they’re all worth the price considering the functions they offer.

Attachment

There are a couple of different methods of attachment when it comes to fogless shower mirrors, and some of them are considered “better” than others.

You have the following options:

  • Direct pipe attachment
  • Rotating suction cups
  • Self-adhesive hooks

Direct pipe attachment method would definitely be the sturdiest and safest choice, but let’s face it, they’re expensive, require a plumber to install, and should of have been done when the house was built.

advertisement

Rotating suction cups are pretty simple, just wet the suction cup and slam it into a clean surface. As long as the anti-fog mirror is light enough, it should never fall off (although this is possible).

I personally prefer the self-adhesive hook attachment method, which means that you will first clean up the wall with some alcohol and then just peel the tape from the back of the hook to attach it into the wall (if you didn’t mess up the cleaning part and the wall is not rough, your hooks WILL stay in place).

Bottom line: There’s plenty of choice between attachment methods, but for the sake of simplicity we decided to only feature the suction cup and self-adhesive hook type of fogless shaving mirrors in this review.

Durability

Let’s face it, a mirror can drop and break, and if this happens in your shower, you’ll risk hurting yourself for sure.

When working with dirty and rough surfaces, heat changes, and suction cups/adhesive hooks you should take extra precautions and choose a shaving mirror that is either shatterproof or made from durable glass.

And please, take your time with attaching it properly. I see so many user reviews of people who have managed to break their mirror when the adhesive hook dropped off from the wall, and in 95% of the time, they are to blame for NOT securing it properly and slacking up with the cleaning part.

It’s best to choose a shatterproof durable mirror and clean the wall properly before you attach it. This increases the durability and lifespan of the mirror, and most importantly keeps you safe.

Best Fogless Shower Mirrors of 2019

1. GAT Portable Trifold Shower Mirror

gat trifold shower shaving mirror

GAT stands for “Go Anywhere Trifold”, and when it comes to fogless shower mirrors, this one is hard to beat.

The three-panel folding mirror is much bigger than most of its competitors, yet when properly attached with the adhesive hooks, it should easily stay up in your shower stall.

advertisement

You can mount the shower mirror in either landscape mode (for easy shaving, beard trimming, hair cutting, etc) or in portrait mode for manscaping and back shaving as an example.

“It’s quite easy to carry with you as it folds into a leather case about the size of a laptop bag, but I wouldn’t necessarily choose this mirror as the go-to travel option.”

The durability in this fogless shaving mirror is top of the line, with the manufacturer reporting 17x greater impact resistance and 10x better break resistance when compared to a regular glass mirror.

When it comes to the anti-fog system of this mirror, it’s actually based on a conductive metal film at the back, which heats up the mirror and keeps it fogless pretty effectively.

Key Specs

  • Size: 10×7″ (side panels) 11×8″ (mid panel)
  • Attachment: Self-adhesive hooks
  • Anti-Fog Method: Conductive metal film
  • Durability: Very good
  • Price: $$$

Pros:

  • Innovative folding design helps with any shaving/trimming task.
  • Break-resistant and extremely durable compared to regular glass.
  • Clamps tightly into the wall when properly attached.

Cons:

  • How do you travel with it, do you re-apply adhesive hooks all the time?
  • As it’s bigger than the competitors, it’s also quite a bit more expensive.

Where to buy it: You can find this fogless shaving mirror from Amazon.Com

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a fog-free in-shower mirror for a myriad of shaving/trimming/manscaping tasks, then you really can’t get anything better than the GAT Trifold shaving mirror.

2. ToiletTree Deluxe Large Fogless Shaving Mirror

Toiletree fogless shaving mirror

ToiletTree is the most popular brand when it comes to fogless shaving mirrors.

Their basic version of this mirror has almost five thousand user reviews on Amazon, and the “Deluxe” version right here is touted to be an upgrade to their earlier best-selling product.

advertisement

“It features a simple to use hot-water reservoir at the back, which means that your mirror will always be fog-free, as long as you can do the simple task of filling that reservoir.”

It also features two hooks in the front for razors, its own little squeegee, and the frame even rotates around in all imaginable directions.

The light-weight shower mirror attaches to the wall tiles by two-sided adhesive tape, and overall it appears to stay there really well, considering the lack of negative reviews about it falling and breaking.

Key Specs

  • Size: 6.5″ x 8″ (width x height)
  • Attachment: Double-side adhesive tape
  • Anti-Fog Method: Hot-water reservoir
  • Durability: Very good
  • Price: $$

Pros:

  • Shatterproof, rustproof, and guaranteed fog-free.
  • A bit larger than most in-shower mirrors, but not overly big.
  • Easy to attach and will stay on your wall if you clean up the area beforehand.
  • The hot-water reservoir anti-fog system is stupidly simple to use.
  • Easy to adjust thanks to the 360° rotating mirror base.

Cons:

  • Not travel-friendly due to tape attachment.
  • Used to suffer from distortion-effect, but apparently, this has been fixed.

Where to buy it: This anti-fog shaving mirror can be found from Amazon.

Bottom line: If you want one of the best fogless shaving mirrors out there from a reputable and very highly reviewed brand, then look no further than ToiletTree.

3. ToiletTree Basic Fogless Shower Mirror

Toiletree anti-fog shower mirror

The basic ToiletTree shower mirror is one of the first fogless shaving mirrors to enter the market, and many swear by it being the best one there is.

With over four-thousand mostly positive customer reviews on Amazon, you can’t really argue with the fact that people just love this mirror.

The size is nice and compact at 8.5″ x 6.5″ and the hot-water reservoir at the back is guaranteed to keep it fog-free each and every time.

advertisement

There’s a handy little tray for your razor, as well as a little squeegee at the bottom which you can use to clean up the mirror.

The mirror is very reliable and sturdy thanks to the double-sided adhesive tape attachment. According to some users who tried to remove it, even too reliable

Key Specs

  • Size: 8.5″ x 6.5″ (width x height)
  • Attachment: Double-side adhesive tape
  • Anti-Fog Method: Hot-water reservoir
  • Durability: Very good
  • Price: $$

Pros:

  • Sticks incredibly well to the wall, not unreliable like suction cups.
  • The most positively reviewed shaving mirror with over 4,000+ reviews.
  • Looks nice and comes with a handy squeegee and a razor tray.
  • Easy to use anti-fog reservoir will keep your mirror crystal clear.

Cons:

  • Not too good adjustability although it does tilt up and down.
  • Do not install this as a short-term solution, the adhesive is hard to remove.

Where to buy it: You can read thousands of reviews and buy it from their Amazon listing.

Bottom line: This is the undisputed fan favorite and if you’d ask for a general consensus on what is the best fogless shaving mirror, you’d probably get ToiletTree as the answer.

4. Shave Well Fog-Free Shower Mirror

shave well fog-free shower mirror

The Shave Well Company’s Fog-Free Shower Mirror has a sleek minimalistic design.

It has a hook attachment, which means that it’s easy to take into your hand or pack with you on your travels.

And the best part is that even though this mirror costs less than $10 – easily being the best value choice – it still outperforms many expensive brands in its anti-fog effect.

advertisement

How does it remain fogless you ask? Well, you just douse it under a warm water-stream and it will retain the heat long enough to stay crystal clear for the whole duration of your shower.

So technically, you could say that this mirror is not fog-free. It’s just a regular mirror. Another drawback is that it’s not very durable, and will most certainly break if it falls (which is still unlikely due to its low weight).

Key Specs

  • Size: 6″ x 4″
  • Attachment: Hook-attachment
  • Anti-Fog Method: None
  • Durability: Not great
  • Price: $

Pros:

  • Cheap and does the job somewhat effectively.
  • Small and compact for travel use (provided that you have a hook for it).
  • thin and sleek design, the glass has just 1.8″ thickness.

Cons:

  • Could be just sold as regular mirror due to no anti-fog system.
  • If it falls, it will break. The glass is not shatterproof or shock-resistant.
  • Too small and hard to adjust for any bigger shaving/manscaping tasks.

Where to buy it: You can grab this shower shaving mirror from Amazon.

Bottom line: Insanely cheap shaving mirror with no real fog-free system (although running it under hot water works quite well). If you’re working with a tight-budget, it may be the right product for you.

5. Upper West Collection Rotating Shower Mirror

upper west collection rotating shaving mirror

What we have here is a very basic but highly popular no fog shower mirror with a rotating suction cup attachment from Upper West Collection.

It has a special coating on it that makes it fogless by just quickly splashing it with hot soapy water. After this, you should be able to have a crystal clear view of your morning shave or beard trim.

The main selling point of this shaving mirror is the adjustability (rotates to pretty much any angle and direction) and the low price (costs just under 20 bucks).

advertisement

It’s quite compact and unnoticeable at a 6.5″ diameter, and if you like to store your razor in the shower for quick access, they also throw you a free razor holder as well.

Key Specs

  • Size: 6.5″ (diameter)
  • Attachment: Suction Cup
  • Anti-Fog Method: Coating
  • Durability: Decent
  • Price: $

Pros:

  • Cheap fogless shower mirror with great adjustability options.
  • Small and compact, easy to attach and detach for travel.

Cons:

  • Does not remain fog-free unless you wipe the mirror with a soapy hand.
  • Suction cup attachment is always a bit risky, no matter how good it is.
  • If your wall is grainy or porous in any way, then the suction cup will fall.

Where to buy it: The Upper West Collection Shaving Mirror is available at Amazon.Com

Bottom line: For less than $20 this shower shaving mirror is quite good. It’s fogless as long as you remember to swipe your finger over the surface with a soapy hand, but the suction cup attachment is an issue for me personally.

6. Mirrorvana Shatterproof Fogless Shower Mirror

mirrorvana shatterproof shower mirror

Mirrorvana sells a fogless shower shaving mirror with a similar 360° rotating suction cup arm attachment as the mirror above has, but instead of being round, this one is rectangular and shatterproof.

The shatterproof part is important, considering that the only thing preventing it from falling to the ground is the suction cup.

The mirror will truly remain fog-free as it employs the well-known and effective hot-water reservoir design at the back.

The rectangular shape and a nice size of 8″ x 7″ means that this 9.6-ounce mirror is easy to use and maneuver, but the best part is still the ridiculously low price.

Key Specs

  • Size: 8″ x 7″
  • Attachment: Suction Cup
  • Anti-Fog Method: Hot-water reservoir
  • Durability: Great
  • Price: $

Pros:

advertisement
  • Extremely cheap price for a decent quality large-ish shower mirror.
  • Thanks to the 360° rotating arm, the mirror is easy to use.
  • Shatterproof, which is very important for a suction-cup attachment.

Cons:

  • I do not trust suction cups, they are convenient, but always risky.
  • The big chunky frame makes this mirror look bit dated on a modern shower.

Where to buy it: You can grab the Mirrorvana fogless shaving mirror from Amazon.

Bottom line: For this low of a price, the mirror is actually a steal. So if you’re working on a tight-budget, this is definitely not a bad option to consider.

7. Elfina Magnifying LED Shaving Mirror

elfina magnifying led lighted shaving mirror

Do you require some magnifying effect for a close hard to shave parts of your face or is your shower stall dimly lit?

Then the Elfina Magnifying LED-illuminated Shaving Mirror is probably the right choice for you.

It has a similar 360° rotating suction cup attachment arm as the two mirrors above (in fact, it’s identical), a rectangular shape which is a tad bit smaller than the one above (6.3″ x 6.3″).

Considering that it has 16 built-in LEDs and a 10x magnification, you could think it would deserve a higher standing on our rankings, but the thing is that the coating on this shower mirror is really not that great in terms of its anti-fog effect.

Key Specs

  • Size: 6.3″ x 6.3″
  • Attachment: Suction Cup
  • Anti-Fog Method: Coating
  • Durability: Decent
  • Price: $$

Pros:

  • Average price and decent quality works for most guys.
  • Easy to attach and detach for travel purposes, compact size.
  • The LED-illumination and magnifying might be specifically useful for some.

Cons:

advertisement
  • Really lackluster anti-fog effect compared to competitors.
  • Suction-cups are unreliable (for the hundredth time).

Where to buy it: Amazon.Com stocks two colors of this mirror, go there to read some (fairly positive) reviews.

Bottom line: I was originally going to rank this mirror higher on the review but a fogless shower mirror should really be fogless at all times. For that reason, it’s at the tail end of our rankings.

Conclusion

In 2019 there are more than enough choices of good quality fogless shaving mirrors for in-shower use.

If you’d ask what I personally would choose. That’s, the #2 on the list, the ToiletTree Deluxe Fogless Shaving Mirror.

The GAT one would be nice, but it’s a tad too big for my use, and the basic ToiletTree one has a chunky frame which makes it look a bit outdated which was not appreciated by my wife.

So, naturally, the modernly designed ToiletTree Deluxe was the best anti-fog shaving mirror for my needs.
